Foundation and earthwork construction includes the risk that soil and groundwater conditions may not have been fully revealed by the original investigation. Soil conditions can be quite variable and the cost of drilling prohibits uncovering all variabilities at every site. Construction procedures may alter the subsurface conditions which, in turn, affect the performance of a structure.
To help minimize such risks, Jacques Whitford services extend into the construction phase with typical assignments that include:
* Monitoring loads and deformations of foundations, earth-retaining structures and preloading for soil improvements;
* Observing and advising on the performance of dewatering systems;
